“We had a great victory today in the civil rights case of Hill v. Snyder. U.S. District Court Judge John Corbett O’Meara issued an order that every person sentenced to life without parole for crimes committed while under the age of 18 is now entitled to parole. Recognizing that the Parole Board, as constituted, does not provide the necessary meaningful and realistic opportunity for release, he ordered the parties to prepare briefings about plans and parole procedures that the court can “put in place to ensure that Plaintiffs receive a fair and meaningful opportunity to demonstrate that they are appropriate candidates for parole.” Judge Corbett O’Meara said that it’s “a matter of law and morality” that the Supreme Court’s decision in Miller apply to all.”
