Ken Nixon, Director of Outreach and Community Partnerships

Ken Nixon joined Safe & Just Michigan in 2023 as our director of community outreach and partnerships, bringing with him extensive experience in leadership and problem solving as the former president of a national organization for people who have been exonerated, including himself.

As the president of the Organization of the Exonerees, Nixon made public and private partnerships to help formerly incarcerated individuals. His work included collaborations with the state of Michigan to help people obtain state-issued IDs and with top leadership at Huntington Bank to help them gain access to bank accounts.

“I’m a problem solver, I don’t do a lot of complaining,” Nixon said. “My mission is to really just fix it.”

Nixon brings his problem-solving and coalition-building skills to Safe & Just Michigan, where he will be forming networks between criminal justice reform advocates, legislators, community organizations and businesses — all with the goal of creating a better justice system for the state of Michigan.
Nixon attends Wayne State University where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science and plans to later attend law school. He resides in Detroit.
